The Hidden Mound Center

Instructor: Michael Jacobs of Omni Architecture

Design Studio, Spring 2020

Location: University of Kentucky’s Adena Indian burial mound

As one enters the site to visit the mound, they are introduced to a sloping walking path that is suspended by the large structural members that are hidden in the forest. As one hikes up along the path, they will find the entry into the building. The center houses a reception area and event space in the first building, and in the second building, connected by an exterior garden, is a museum about the Adena Indians and the mound. Through the walk through the building, views are created in the forest to see the burial mound. The center, a large and robust building, remains hidden in the forest just like the burial mound that the building represents
